All’Ambasciata d’Italia a Vienna (1961-1966); Consigliere alla Rappresentanza Permanente d’Italia presso le Comunità Europee a Bruxelles, responsabile, tra l’alto, per i negoziati di adesione di Danimarca, Irlanda e Gran Bretagna e per i negoziati paralleli con i Paesi Efta (1966-1973); al Ministero degli Esteri a Roma, responsabile per gli Affari Comunitari (1973-1978); Membro della delegazione italiana ai Consigli Europei ed ai Vertici (prima a sei poi a sette) di Rambouillet (1975), Puerto Rico (1976) e Londra (1977); Vice-Rappresentante Permanente presso le Comunità Europee a Bruxelles (1978-1980); nominato Ambasciatore d’Italia a Belgrado (1980-1984); Ambasciatore-Rappresentante Permanente d’Italia presso le Comunità Europee (1984-1990); al Ministero degli Esteri come Direttore Generale per l’Emigrazione e gli affari sociali (1990-1993); Capo della Rappresentanza Permanente d’Italia presso l’OCSE a Parigi (1993-1997); Rappresentante personale (Sherpa) del Presidente del Consiglio per la Presidenza italiana del G7 di Napoli.
Attualmente Membro di varie associazioni di politica estera e pubblicista.
He entered the diplomatic service in 1995, assigned to the Department of Political Affairs, Rome; Press Office Attaché at the Ministry (1959); at the Embassy of Vienna (1961-1966); Counsellor in the Italian Permanent Diplomatic Mission to the EEC in Brussels, Responsible inter alia for the negotiation for the EEC membership of Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom and the parallel negotiation with EFTA countries (1966-1973); Responsible in the economic Department for Community Affairs at Foreign Ministry in Rome (1973-1978); Member of the Italian delegation to the European Councils and to the Summits in Rambouillet (1975), Puerto Rico (1976), London (1977); Deputy Permanent Representative to the EEC in Brussels (1978-1980); appointed Ambassador of Italy to Yugoslavia (1980-1984); Ambassador-Permanent Representative to EEC in Brussels (1984-1990); Director general of the Department of Emigration and Social Affairs, Foreign Ministry in Rome (1990-1993); Head of the Italian Permanent Representative to the OECD, Paris; Personal Representative (Sherpa) of the Prime Minister to the G7 Summit in Naples (1993-1995).
